Tips & Tricks: Smarter Sym Library Management with Modules & Training Plans

In this edition of SymTrain Tips & Tricks, Customer Success Manager Gaurav Kapadia walks through how to efficiently manage and deploy your Sym library using two powerful capabilities: Modules and Training Plans. As training programs grow, so does the complexity of managing simulations. Assigning individual Syms one by one can quickly become time-consuming and difficult to scale, especially when working with large trainee groups or multiple batches. In this session, Gaurav demonstrates how to streamline assignments, structure learning paths, and enforce performance standards, all while improving both admin efficiency and trainee experience.

In this edition of Tips & Tricks, we covered:

  • How to group simulations into Modules for faster assignment
  • Assigning training content to teams vs. individual users
  • Creating structured learning paths with sequence control
  • Using Training Plans to set success criteria and performance thresholds
  • Tracking progress and performance through reporting

Why These Capabilities Matter

Once you’ve built a strong Sym library, the next challenge is deploying it efficiently. Many teams run into common friction points:

  • Assigning dozens of simulations manually
  • Inconsistent training experiences across batches
  • Lack of structured learning paths
  • No clear success criteria for trainees
  • Limited control over how simulations are completed

Without the right structure, even the best content can become difficult to scale. Modules and Training Plans solve this by turning your Sym library into a structured, repeatable training system.

A Deeper Look

1. Modules: Assign Smarter, Not Harder

Modules allow you to group multiple simulations into a single unit, making it easy to assign them all at once. Instead of assigning 20–30 Syms individually, you can:

  • Create a module
  • Add relevant simulations
  • Assign the entire module to individuals or teams in one click
  • Search and select Syms quickly
  • Drag and drop to organize sequence
  • Add labels for easy filtering
  • Clone or share modules across teams

Modules include an optional sequence setting, which ensures trainees complete simulations in a specific order. For example:

  1. Opening
  2. Probing
  3. Resolution
  4. Closing

Impact:
Modules significantly reduce manual work while creating a more structured and guided learning experience for trainees.

2. Training Plans: Adding Structure & Accountability

Training Plans take Modules a step further by allowing you to define success criteria and control how training is completed. Unlike standalone Syms or Modules, Training Plans allow you to:

Success Criteria
Set expectations for performance, such as:

  • Sym Accuracy Score (Low / Medium / High)
  • Keyword Score (e.g., 80%)
  • Click Score (e.g., 90%)

This ensures trainees don’t just complete training, but meet defined standards.

Attempt Controls
Define:

  • Number of maximum attempts
  • Number of successful attempts required

This is particularly useful for certification-style training or readiness validation.

Practice vs. Test Mode
Training Plans allow you to control how trainees engage with simulations:

  • Unlimited Practice Mode
Ideal for new hires learning the system
  • Limited Practice Attempts
    Encourages focused practice
  • Test Mode Only (Practice Disabled)
Best for evaluating tenured agents or conducting assessments

Impact:
These controls help tailor training based on experience level, ensuring the right balance between learning and evaluation.

3. Trainee Experience: Clear, Structured, and Guided

From the trainee’s perspective:

  • Modules appear as grouped learning paths
  • Training Plans show clear expectations
  • Sequence settings guide progression
  • Locked steps ensure proper flow
  • Scores and attempts are clearly defined

Impact:
This creates a more intuitive and engaging learning experience, helping trainees stay focused and confident.

How to Use

  1. Organize Your Library First
    • Group Syms by scenario, skill, or process, maintaining a naming convention
  2. Use Modules for Structure
    • Call flows, product training, soft skills, or scenario-based learning
  3. Use Training Plans for Outcomes
    • Performance validation, certification-style training, and new hire readiness tracking
  4. Balance Practice & Evaluation
    • Use practice mode for learning and test mode for validation
  5. Reuse and Scale
    • Leverage Module cloning and Training Plan reassignments to avoid rework

A Real-World Example

A training team prepares a new hire onboarding program with 25 simulations.

Without Modules & Training Plans:

  • Each Sym must be assigned individually
  • No structured progression
  • No defined success criteria

With Modules & Training Plans:

  • All 25 Syms are grouped into a single module
  • A Training Plan sets:
    • 80% keyword score
    • 90% click score
    • Limited attempts
  • The plan is reused across multiple batches

The result is faster deployment, consistent training, and measurable outcomes.

Pro Tip

Use Modules for organization and Training Plans for performance control. Together, they transform your Sym library into a scalable, structured training system.

How to Access
